Two Michelin chefs will face off in a contest to lose their chef's trademarks - big round bellies - in the next three months. Both will make donations to charity and the loser will dress as a waitress and work at the winner's restaurant for a day.
Harlan Goldstein and Alvin Leung, friends for more than 15 years, met last week and found that both of them had gained some kilograms.
They then decided to put up a weight-loss challenge to make themselves healthier and to promote healthy eating habits.
The two 52-year-old "heavyweights" will be switching from their famous steaks, lobsters and fine wine to a daily menu of salads and oatmeal. They will also go on a strict daily workout schedule.
"We're chefs, chefs are supposed to be fat. If we can do it, everyone can do it," said Leung, owner of five restaurants including the two-star Chinese restaurant Bo Innovation in Wan Chai.
Goldstein, who owns two restaurants in Lan Kwai Fong including one-star European restaurant Gold, said it was difficult for chefs to lose weight as they were surrounded by food and wine all the time.
