Former pastor denies indecent assault charges

Titus Poon Man-shun pleads not guilty to molesting women in two branches of church

JULIE CHIU

A former senior pastor accused of molesting a woman during an exorcism pleaded not guilty yesterday to six charges of indecent assault.

Titus Poon Man-shun is alleged to have committed the offences against two women in his churches.

The court was told the first three charges took place in April 2004 when Poon was accused of molesting the first victim inside the Assemblies of God Wa Wai Church in Kwun Tong Road, Kwun Tong.

In one of the charges he is alleged to have fondled the woman's breasts during a 15-minute attempt to exorcise the devil from her. The victim was a member of the church who knew Poon, the court heard.

The three other offences are said to have occurred in the office of another branch of his church between October 2012 and March this year, including one occasion when Poon was alleged to have tried, unsuccessfully, to take off the victim's trousers.

Kwun Tong Court heard that the cleric had resigned from the church in March.

His case was adjourned to September 6 for trial.

Poon is accused of sexually assaulting the second victim in the Assemblies of God Wa Wai Church in Shing Yip Street, Kwun Tong between October 2012 and March 2013.

He is accused of asking the woman to come into his office three times during that period.

On one occasion he pushed her against the wall and embraced her for five minutes, the court heard.

On another occasion, Poon is alleged to have pushed the woman onto a sofa and lain on top of her.

He was also accused of trying to take off the woman's trousers, but his attempt failed, the court heard.

He was arrested in March and was allowed out on cash bail of HK$10,000 and a HK$10,000 surety.
