Instant noodles in a cup may not be Hongkongers' proudest choice for their contribution to world cuisine, but local instant noodle fans may nonetheless take some solace in the fact that one local brand has made it onto a list of the world's most delicious instant noodles. 
A Hong Kong-made Nissin cup noodle with seafood curry flavour has been rated as one of the top 10 instant cup noodles of 2013 by an instant noodle rating website.
Hans Lienesch, 38, the founder of The Ramen Rater website who claimed that he had eaten more than 1,100 kinds of instant ramen, gave the cup noodle 4.25 out of 5.0 stars and rated it No 9 on his list. 
A spokesperson for Nissin in Hong Kong, who declined to give her name, confirmed that the noodles which appeared on the website were made in Hong Kong, based on the design of the packaging.
“The noodles steeped perfectly. The vegetables and little bits of dehydrated fish came out just perfect, and the broth was very curry,” wrote the American gourmet in his review.
But he also pointed out that the curry flavour overwhelmed the seafood taste.
Most Chinese netizens welcomed the list. "I tried this instant noodle (the Nissin cup noodle with seafood curry flavour). It's very tasty," wrote one Weibo user.
Others complained about the absence of brands of instant noodles popular with Chinese. "How come there is no Master Kong (a Taiwanese brand of instant noodle)! The list is not scientific," commented another.
Indonesia’s Indomie Mi Goreng Instant Cup Noodles and Japan’s Nissin GooTa Demi Hamburg-Men were the champion and runner-up. Three instant noodles made in South Korea also appeared on the list, which was dominated by Southeastern Asian brands.
