A flight attendant yesterday denied using her own clothes to obtain various new Abercrombie & Fitch fashion items.

In Eastern Court, Carmen Chiu, 37, pleaded not guilty to two counts of obtaining property by deception and one count of attempting to obtain property by deception before Principal Magistrate Bina Chainrai.

The charges allege that on three occasions Chiu brought different items of clothing, including a brown vest, a short-sleeved top, and two sweaters, valued at HK$2,040, to the brand's flagship store in Central and tried to exchange them for different Abercrombie & Fitch products, saying they had come from the shop.

The alleged offences took place in the Pedder Street store in March and April this year.

The legislation says that any person who by any deception dishonestly obtains property belonging to another, with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it, will be guilty of an offence and will be liable on conviction upon indictment to imprisonment for 10 years. Freed on bail, Chiu will attend a pre-trial review on October 7.
