The revelation by China's anti-corruption chief Wang Qishan that he was a fan of popular Korean drama My Love from the Star raised some eyebrows during the National People's Congress in Beijing. But the 65-year-old official is not alone: former secretary for economic development and labour Stephen Ip Shu-kwan has emerged as another unlikely fan of the drama about an actress's romance with an alien.

A well-known gourmet, the former minister revealed in his weekly food column that both he and his wife have been watching the drama. After writing more than 1,000 words to describe his Michelin-starred French culinary experience at the Jockey Club - on which he spent HK$1,700 - he said: "[After] taking photos with the master chef I rushed home with my wife to watch [My Love from] the Star as we munched on fried chicken."

Seems the former top official is an even bigger fan than Wang, as he has even picked up a junk food habit - much like the leading character in the drama.

There were worries about 77-year-old lawmaker Lau Wong-fat's health when he told officials that he would miss yesterday's breakfast meeting on political reform because he was "ill".
