Lawmakers to release report on same dayas select committee hands down findings
Five lawmakers plan to release their own report today denouncing lavish spending by former anti-graft chief Timothy Tong Hin-ming in the strongest possible terms, the has learned.
The five are members of a Legislative Council select committee that has been probing his extravagant spending on official entertainment, trips and gifts during his five years at the helm of the Independent Commission Against Corruption from 2007 to 2012.
The committee of 13, dominated by the pro-establishment camp, will also release its report today after a 12-month inquiry.
In a four-page document seen by the , lawmakers James To Kun-sun, Cyd Ho Sau-lan, Wong Yuk-man, Dennis Kwok and Kenneth Leung Kai-cheong set out their own findings from the probe, which are expected to differ from those in the committee's report.
They also express disappointment that other committee members rejected their attempts to call other ICAC members before the inquiry. The committee has no legal power to summon witnesses or documents.
And they condemn Tong "in the strongest possible terms" for the damage he caused to the ICAC's integrity. They criticise remarks made by Tong to the select committee that he was complying with "the mainland culture of guest receptions" by serving the expensive spirit mao-tai when hosting mainland officials.
