Despite the hype and fancy marketing, high-end anti-wrinkle creams are no more effective than their more affordable alternatives, the city's consumer watchdog says.

Regardless of price, most "miracle creams" did not dramatically smooth out all facial wrinkles, tests for the Consumer Council revealed.

A study of 11 face creams found the two cheapest samples were just as, if not more, effective than expensive brands in fighting wrinkles and moisturising.

The second cheapest product tested - Olay's mainland-made Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Super Cream Moisturiser - cost just HK$48 per 10ml but scored the highest at 3-1/2 stars out of five.

The most expensive cream - South Korean brand Sulwhasoo's Renodigm EX Dual Care Cream - scored three stars out of five despite costing HK$214 per 10ml.

Sulwhasoo claims Renodigm is a Korean herbal medicinal product that protects skin from light and heat for a younger look.
