Hong Kong Disneyland will step up its appeal to the night owls among the city's youngsters in October with its launch of a light-up parade - the first in all Walt Disney parks around the world.

The nightly parade on Main Street USA will feature more than 80 performers and use over 740,000 individual LED lights on seven floats to display different colours and patterns.

Monster Inc's Mike, Sulley and their monster friends as well as Cars characters will appear on floats for the first time. Daytime regulars Tinker Bell, Princess Bell and Mickey And Friends will also join the entourage.

The light-up parade took the Disney team two years to put together, said David Lightbody, director of entertainment and costuming. Technological advancements had offered the team more opportunities to exhibit their creativity, he said.

At the event, not just the vehicles but also the cast members' costumes, wigs and eyelashes will glow in the dark.
