We're trapped in the eighties, says rock queen Angel Leung
Music producer wants Hong Kong to move on from Canto-pop love songs and come up with something more in tune with the times

Rock queen Angel Leung - former disc jockey turned politician turned music producer - is proud of the students who have taken to the streets.
But one thing that does irk the woman who discovered '80s Canto-pop legends Beyond is that today's youth anthems are almost 20 years old.
"We need a new generation of music - we don't want to keep repeating the '80s. We need a unique sound for this moment," she said. Leung argues that while the songs of Beyond that rang out from the crowds of Admiralty were important to the city's cultural identity, a fresher sound could help boost spirits.
"We need something like The Clash's but we just have all these love songs. They're so boring and commercial. "
There has been some movement: a new song released on Saturday features the lyrics, "Together holding up an umbrella, bravely fighting for what should be ours, are you afraid? Whatever violent rain may fall our determination will not fade."
But Leung said there were still not enough songs like it.
