A fortune-teller who was targeted by an angry client last year fears for his safety again after he received a letter warning him his days were numbered, a court heard yesterday.

Yiu Wai-ho told Eastern Court that he got the written threat on July 31 at his office in Wan Chai - outside which former businessman Roewe Lok Wai started a fire last year because he believed Yiu had harmed his family and business by giving bad advice.

The letter warned Yiu with strong words including "apocalypse" and "you are digging your own grave". It was delivered by an unknown man to his office in Way On Commercial Building, but Lok, 42, allegedly wrote and signed it.

Lok has pleaded not guilty to one count of criminal intimidation. Earlier, he had admitted to police he was the letter writer.

"I was scared that someone would turn up suddenly and stab me," Yiu told the court under examination by prosecutor Lisa Go. "My safety was threatened."

He said the letter told him to "redeem" himself as he had sinned and his apocalypse was approaching. He was also given a number to ring within 24 hours.
