More than 100 Indonesians attended a vigil in Victoria Park on Sunday to demand justice for the victims of the recent double murder in Wan Chai.

The cousin of Sumarti Ningsih - one of the two victims - urged the Indonesian government to assist her cousin's family after the death of its main breadwinner.

"She was just an ordinary woman from Indonesia," the cousin, Jumiati, said at the vigil. "Like me and many others, she was forced to work abroad to feed her poor family and make her dream come true."

"I wish the community would stop judging them but instead lend an understanding to their difficulties and hardship in life."

Media reports since the murders have claimed that the women worked as prostitutes.

Jumiati said she first noticed her cousin was missing on October 26, and reported the case to the Wan Chai Police station on November 1, the day the bodies were discovered. She learned of her cousin's death when police showed her photos of the victims.
