Man appears in court accused of assaulting RTHK journalist at Occupy camp

A man accused of assaulting RTHK journalist Erik Mak Ka-wai at the pro-democracy protest camp in Mong Kok was not required to enter a plea at Kwun Tong Court this morning.

So Si-kit, 56, is charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Mak at Nelson Street near its junction with Nathan Road.

The alleged attack took place on October 4, the seventh day of the civil disobedience protest which has now lasted seven weeks.

Dressed in a beige blazer and white shirt, the retired man was represented by counsel David Boyton.

Prosecutor Esther Mak asked for the case to be adjourned to allow more time to seek legal advice on the appropriateness of the charge, as well as accommodating the defence counsel’s schedule.

Acting principal magistrate Don So Man-lung told the defendant: “In the meantime, keep close contact with the lawyer so that they can seek instructions from you.”
