Charity the winner from day of 5-a-side soccer fun

Annual tournament sees glut of goals in the sunshine as 250 junior and adult players help raise more than HK$500,000 for good causes

There were goals galore as soccer players - from primary school children to businesspeople - braved Sunday's unseasonably warm temperatures to find the net more than 100 times in a day of five-a-side action.

With temperatures hitting a warm 28 degrees Celsius, more than 250 junior and adult players showed off their silky skills for the Operation Santa Claus tournament at Stanley Ho Playing Fields in Pok Fu Lam.

And as well as working up a sweat, the players also helped to raise more than HK$500,000 for Operation Santa, the annual fundraising campaign organised by the and RTHK, and the 20 charitable causes it supports.

The money came from donations and sponsorship, including the support of main sponsor, property agency CBRE.

Craig Shute, the firm's managing director for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, said raising money for charity was one of the firm's core principles. In the last four years, it has helped raise some HK$2.9 million for Operation Santa.
