The world's "most durable radio DJ" is celebrating a landmark birthday, almost 15 years after entering the Guinness World Records book.
"Uncle" Ray Cordeiro, who turned 90 yesterday, has become a legend in music broadcasting since joining cable station Radio Rediffusion in 1949. Every weeknight, he extends his world record with his RTHK programme All the Way With Ray.
"I'm the only DJ at this age still doing a three-hour show every night, live, and I'm doing it all by myself, including taking request calls, and emails too, from fans around the world," said Cordeiro, who has been recognised as the world's longest-serving DJ since 2000. He believes he warrants a second entry as well, as the only 90-year-old DJ still on active duty.
"Music keeps me going, night after night, and my best time in the day is those three hours doing my late-night show. Even when I'm not feeling well, the minute I walk into the studio, I am completely OK," the Hong Kong-born nonagenarian laughed.
Fitness aside, he said: "Thank God I still have my voice to do the show, which has kept me through 90 years of age.
"I am extra happy that this voice is heard around the world through the internet".
The veteran turns reflective when discussing that famous voice, which he says he owes largely to his mother.
