The mother of jailed property tycoon Thomas Kwok Ping-kwong yesterday showed up at a showroom for Sun Hung Kai Properties' latest residential project - her first public appearance after her son was put behind bars for bribing a former chief secretary.

Octogenarian Kwong Siu-hing, whose family controls SHKP, was spotted making a brief visit in a wheelchair to the Tung Chung residential project's show flats at the International Commerce Centre in Kowloon at around 3pm. She was accompanied by deputy SHKP managing director Victor Lui Ting and other staff.

Unlike the matriarch's previous such visit - to the Riva residential project's show flats when they were released for sale in 2013 - this time property agents were present. A photograph was taken of the matriarch, whom the High Court heard last month was in deteriorating health.

Kwok's lawyer told the court during a mitigation hearing that he was very worried about Kwong's poor health and, once in jail, he could not have meals with her every week as in the past.

Lui said: "Madam Kwong asked how the sale of the Century Link development was going while we had lunch together. I told her it was quite good."
