Unions representing the staff of all eight disciplined services, including police and firefighters, will express their dismay to the government on a plan to impose conditions on staff who want to delay retirement by five years.
Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying may receive an open letter from them as early as today, the Fire Services Department Staffs General Association says.
While new recruits will serve until the age of 60, current staff who want to work beyond the retirement age of 55 will have to undergo assessments, including fitness tests.
"It's just not fair," association chairman Jerry Nip Yuen-fung said yesterday. "There should not be any hurdles custom-made only for current staff members."
Nip also dismissed the idea of requiring fitness tests, as older firefighters could serve in teaching or other roles where experience was valued over fitness.
Earlier this week, all four police staff associations issued an open letter expressing "utmost dissatisfaction" with the retirement conditions.
