US restaurant chain Hooters says it plans to open five outlets in Hong Kong with staff now scouting potential locations.

But fans of chain - famous for their busty female waitresses in tight tops and short shorts as well as their chicken wings - will have to wait a little longer to know if there's going to be one opening in their neighbourhood.

“Our on-site teams are currently assessing sites in Hong Kong but nothing has been finalised yet,” said a spokeswoman for Hooters headquarters in Atlanta.

“We’re excited to roll out our aggressive expansion plan throughout Southeast Asia over the next six years, but a specific timeframe for the new locations in Hong Kong has not yet been established.”

The company has suffered in recent years with the closure of about a dozen stores in the US, with observers saying the concept is outdated.

Recruitment for staff in Hong Kong has not started, the spokeswoman said, but “their salary scale will be one of the highest in the market”.

“For recruiting local Hooters girls, we’ll carry out those searches during our upcoming on-site visits,” she said.

Job requirements included “being able to maintain an impeccable image, having an outgoing personality, willingness to offer top class customer service 100 per cent of the time and, most important of all, the ability to demonstrate a love for Hooters,” she said.

“We also look at previous hospitality experience,” the spokeswoman added.
