The University of Hong Kong yesterday announced the appointments of two key leaders, but it has yet to name a pro-vice-chancellor for the university.

Former law dean Johannes Chan Man-mun has been tipped for that role, amid accusations in some Chinese-language media that Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying tried to block his appointment. Leung's office has denied meddling in the university's governance.

HKU announced that Professor Andy Hor Tzi Sum, a visiting materials scientist from the National University of Singapore, was named vice-president and pro-vice-chancellor for research.
