There was drama in the Family Court yesterday when a man attacked a clerk then followed him and a judge as they tried to flee to the court chambers - and locked himself inside with them.
The man was said to have become emotional during a closed-door hearing before Deputy Family Court Judge Pang Ka-kwong in Wan Chai's District Court building at about 10am.
He shoved a computer and some papers off a table and tried to attack the judge, according to a police source. The 52-year-old court clerk intervened but was hit twice on the head. Pang and the clerk fled to the court chambers but the man gave chase, locking the door behind him.
Police were quickly on the scene and gained entry to the chambers, where the man then attacked one of the officers. After repeated warnings, police used pepper spray to subdue him.
A man was arrested for assaulting the officer and the clerk and for causing criminal damage. It is understood he is fighting for custody of his children in a divorce case.
He later complained of feeling ill and was taken to nearby Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai, where the injured officer and clerk also received treatment.
