The Post's graphics, design and photo departments all triumphed in the Best of News Design competition run by the United States-based Society for News Design, beating last year's haul of 28 awards.

A panel had selected the winners at a closed-door session at Syracuse University in New York last month but the results were not revealed until Wednesday.

The awards recognised infographics, feature design pages, illustrations and portfolios.

"This is pure journalism… from the germ of the idea to the final packaging, that is why I am so passionate about this work," said Alberto Lucas, the Post's graphics director, whose haul of 33 awards was the most won by an individual in the competition's 36-year history. His honours included a Silver award for his portfolio of work.

His award-winning works included The Height of Social Values, which charted the evolution of groundbreaking tall buildings throughout history.
