Hong Kong will occupy an expensive piece of real estate in the next edition of Monopoly after coming second in a worldwide poll of nearly 4 million fans to mark the timeless board game’s 80th anniversary.
The city was voted the second most favourite location to appear in the Monopoly Here and Now: World Edition to be launched in September.
And with property and rental prices surging in the city, it’s perhaps no surprise that landing on Hong Kong during the game will not be easy on players’ wallets.
Hong Kong is in the most expensive dark blue section of the board, occupying the spot held by Park Lane in Monopoly’s classic edition and by Repulse Bay in the city’s version.
Nearly 4 million fans from 182 countries cast a vote to choose from a list of 80 locations around the world in the poll between February 13 and March 4.
Lima, capital of Peru, topped the poll and will sit next door to Hong Kong on the space held by Mayfair in the classic edition and by The Peak in the city’s edition.
