CY Leung and Hong Kong Basic Law drafters set to gather for 25th anniversary reunion dinner
The drafters of Hong Kong’s Basic Law and members of a consultative committee on the mini-constitution will gather for a reunion dinner at Government House on April 4 to mark the 25th anniversary of its promulgation.

The drafters of Hong Kong’s Basic Law and members of a consultative committee on the mini-constitution will gather for a reunion dinner at Government House next Saturday to mark the 25th anniversary of its promulgation.
Martin Lee Chu-ming, who stepped down from the Basic Law drafting committee in the wake of the bloody crackdown on 1989 pro-democracy protests in Beijing, is among the guests invited for the dinner, organised by Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying.
It will be the first reunion for members of the drafting committee and consultative committee since a similar gathering in May 2007, which was also initiated by Leung.
If Lee attends the dinner, political reform could be a hot topic among him, the chief executive and other guests.
Writing in his blog this morning, Leung said he was thankful for the hard work and contribution made by the Basic Law drafters and members of the consultative committee between 1985 and 1990. The Basic Law was endorsed by the National People’s Congress on April 4, 1990.
“The government will host a dinner on April 4 to express our gratitude to the members,” he wrote.
