Two workers died and another man was injured in two separate industrial accidents in Wan Chai and Yuen Long in the space of 41/2 hours yesterday.

Cheung Tung-shing, 52, was working on top of a 5.5-metre-high wooden working platform at a construction site in Yuen Lung Road at about 10.45am when he lost his balance and fell.

He was taken unconscious to Pok Oi Hospital in Yuen Long, where he was later declared dead.

The second accident happened on a construction site in Stubbs Road, Wan Chai, at about 3.15pm when a metal working platform built on a slope collapsed.

"Two workers were working on top of the platform at the time it collapsed," a police spokeswoman said. "The pair fell about 10 metres down a slope."

Yang Can-qiu, 42, was unconscious while being carried into an ambulance, police said. He was declared dead in nearby Ruttonjee Hospital. His colleague, Yeung Kin-chiu, also 42, suffered minor injuries and was later transferred to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam.
