More than 1,000 parents attended a briefing session on entry procedures at St Paul's Co-educational College in Central last Saturday. Just 90 Form One places will be available for the coming school year for children who do not come from its affiliated primary school. A vice-principal said last year candidates were asked: "How would you make a cup of Ovaltine? Why would it melt?"

4,000 subsidised flats set to hit the market early next year 
A total of about 4,000 subsidised flats built by the Housing Society and the Housing Authority will become available early next year. It has been reported that about 1,000 homes in Siu Lek Yuen, Sha Tin, developed by the Housing Society will be priced higher than Home Ownership Scheme flats launched at about the same time by the Housing Authority.

Consumer Council chief obtains special pass to visit monastery 
Consumer Council chairman Professor Wong Yuk-shan, who is also Open University president, has been criticised for being given special access to Tsz Shan Monastery in Tai Po in his council capacity. In an email inviting other council members to join him on January 9, Wong said it normally took a long time to book a tour of the monastery, but he had managed to get one through a director there. The visit will also involve a vegetarian meal with monks. People have to book visits in advance, with a daily quota set at 400.

Link Reit seeks favour through HK$2 hairy crab, abalone offer
A seafood stall at Lok Fu market, located above Lok Fu MTR station, is offering 100 hairy crabs and abalone for only HK$2 each every Tuesday between today and December 5, as part of a promotion launched by landlord Link Reit in collaboration with some of the tenants as a way to mark the second anniversary of the wet market's upgrade. About 25 per cent of tenants are taking part. One who is not participating said the Link Reit should have cut rents instead.

Young people 'become picky about their job choices'
Young people have been criticised for lacking the right working attitude. At a retail job fair staged by the Labour Department in Yau Tong, a 19-year-old part-time job seeker said she had dropped the idea of working as a highly paid accident and emergency ward assistant because of the long working hours and the need to work overnight, even though she underwent the required training. She said she wanted to do part-time jobs so she could travel.

Drones invade prison airspace, but nothing found on them
Remote-controlled drones have been increasingly intruding into prisons in recent years, according to sources. The Correctional Services Department confirmed there had been three drone crashes in the past five years, although no prohibited articles were found on the gadgets. Prison officers have no power to shoot down drones.
