Soft focus: Hong Kong police replace iconic officer with ‘milk tea man’ as Facebook mascot
Police force risks inviting further ridicule with the introduction of ‘Kong’ the cartoon canteen man who serves milk tea and reports officers’ gossip

Milk tea, a local classic, is the new signature of the official police Facebook page with the departure of chief superintendent Steve Hui Chun-tak from the force’s public relations bureau.
Police unveiled their new Facebook mascot yesterday, replacing the animated depiction of the officer popularly known as “Four O’clock Hui Sir” with a cartoon “milk-tea man” named Kong. From now on he will prepare and serve the ubiquitous drink at the force’s headquarters canteen and report gossip or stories from officers.

A police source told the Post that the Facebook page will feature a comic book story each week in which Kong, as the main character, will convey anti-crime messages.
“Milk tea is a classic drink that we cannot live without in daily life,” the source told. “We want to use it as a link to bond with the community and attract young supporters as they love reading comics.”
