A 30-second gun salute will bring the performance on February 9 to a close.

The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA) is set to sponsor the Chinese New Year fireworks display for the first time.

The huge fireworks displays over Victoria Harbour are a centrepiece of Hong Kong’s celebrations of the Lunar New Year, and are a source of much discussion and comparison to years past.

At its media conference on Tuesday, the CMA announced details of the event and unveiled the themes of this year’s display.

CMA President Eddy Li said: “Lighting up the night sky, the dazzling fireworks will no doubt add to the charm and beauty of the world-renowned “multi-billion dollar night scenery” of our beloved Victoria Harbour.

“Besides drawing thousands of visitors to the city, the display will create many wonderful memories for all spectators, and that’s why we are pleased to support this mega-event.”
