Elderly handcart pusher dies in hospital after being hit by delivery van in central Hong Kong

An elderly handcart pusher has died in hospital after being knocked down by a delivery van in the centre of Hong Kong.

The 59-year-old man was knocked down on Connaught Road at noon on Friday.

He was taken to Queen Mary Hospital with serious head injuries but was pronounced dead by doctors at about 1.45pm.

The 41-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been released on bail until a date in mid-March, police said.

Detectives have appealed for witnesses to speak to them.
