The anti-Tiger mum: watch Chinese mother’s ingenious technique to appease upset child as she tells him to ‘cry it out’
Mystery woman praised online for her clever parenting approach

A Chinese mother has become an online sensation after she was filmed taking an ingenious approach to appease her upset child, telling him to “cry it out”.
The mystery woman, who is only heard but not seen in the viral clip, has been praised for her actions, which go counter to the demanding child-rearing methods of so-called Tiger mums – an Asian parenting stereotype.
In the 30-second video, she is heard telling the toddler to continue crying after he becomes hysterical while preparing to clean his teeth.

Speaking in Cantonese, she says; “Just cry, just cry. You’re going to feel better when you cry it out”, before asking; “Are you feeling better now?”

The boy answers; “Yes”, but carries on blubbing, prompting his mother to gently insist that he should continue crying until he feels calm, saying again; “Ok, just cry it all out.”
Seconds later, he regains his composure and tells his mother; “I’m done crying”.
She replies; “Done? Are you alright?” to which he responds “Yes” before picking up his toothbrush to clean his teeth after she instructs him to.
The clip has been watched more than 1.5 million times this week after it was shared on Facebook by Hong Kong actress Rainky Wai, who wrote; “Ah what a good mother”.
