Stanley Lau was a typical Hong Kong success story who built up watch business from scratch
Top officials, business figures, lawmakers and scholars paid their respects on Thursday at the funeral of prominent industrialist Stanley Lau Chin-ho, who died aged 66.
Hundreds of wreaths were laid in the parlour of the Hong Kong Funeral Home in North Point, with more placed outside.
Lau, honorary president of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, was considered a typical Hong Kong success story, having started his watch business in the 1980s from scratch and dubbed “man of steel” for his dedication.
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Financial Secretary John Tsang Chun-wah, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Matthew Cheung Kin-chung and Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Greg So Kam-leung were all in attendance. Tsang, Cheung and So served as pallbearers.
Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, who attended a vigil for Lau on Wednesday, and wife Regina Leung Tong Ching-yee sent a wreath, which was placed prominently along those sent by relatives, friends and top mainland figures.
A brochure detailing the industrialist’s life and achievements were distributed to visitors.
