Emergency personnel have been dispatched to Hong Kong International Airport after dense smoke was seen coming from the construction site of the third runway.

Police received a report of fire at the site soon after noon on Wednesday.

A police spokeswoman said operation of the two runways was not affected.

The fire was put out before 12.30pm, according to police. The spokeswoman said officers were still investigating what caught fire.
