A plastic bag filled with an unknown liquid landed just metres from Hong Kong’s leader while she was visiting a Wong Tai Sin housing estate on Wednesday.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam Yuet-ngor was talking to reporters outside Ho Lap Kindergarten on the ground floor of Lok Shun House in Tsz Lok Estate at about 3.40pm when the bag – which apparently fell from a residential high-rise – hit the ground about 10 metres to her side.

Journalists were startled by the incident but Lam seemed unfazed, and continued her speech without pausing.

No one was hit or injured.

Lam walked past the plastic bag after the briefing.

Police cordoned the area and searched the building, but no arrests were made.

Lam was visiting pupils and teachers at the kindergarten. The stop was part of her scheduled visit to Kwun Tong and Wong Tai Sin districts with Secretary for Labour and Welfare Law Chi-kwong.
