Hong Kong cinema chains have braced themselves for a glut of excited Marvel moviegoers ahead of the premiere of The Avengers: Age of Ultron - a week ahead of the lucrative North American market - by giving fans up to 401 screenings to find the best seat on the opening day.

Though it seemed not many people took a day off work to watch the box office blockbuster immediately - despite an estimated 90,000 tickets being made available for day one.

The Post observed the afternoon screenings at the MCL cinema in Causeway Bay to be less than 40 per cent full.

Avengers fan Phoebe Chau Hoi Kin, 24, an entertainment journalist, took time off work with a friend to make the lunchtime screening.

"I have high expectations for this because the last Avengers movie was so great," she said. "I kept on track with the news and the making of the movie. I've been waiting ever since the trailer came out [last May 2014]."

Chau praised the "great storyline" and seamless combination of the characters that even those who have not seen every Marvel movie can follow.
