More than half of Hong Kong people prefer to worry about their future financial security, rather than enjoy life now
However, survey reveals that more mainland people prefer to live for today rather than worry about savings and investments

Hong Kong stands out as the only place in a global study where more than half of those polled disagreed with the idea that they should enjoy life today and worry about savings and investment later.
The survey, conducted by German research institute Gfk, asked over 27,000 internet users aged over 15 in 22 places about their opinions on the statement: “I want to enjoy life today and will worry about savings and investments later”.
In Hong Kong, savers significantly outnumbered fun-lovers compared to their global peers. A total of 54 per cent in Hong Kong disapproved of the “have fun today” mindset. Only 26 per cent agreed with the concept.
Mainland people, however, seemed to be happier compared with Hongkongers, according to the survey. Thirty-eight per cent of respondents “completely agreed” or “agreed somewhat” with the statement – the second highest proportion in the 22 survey locations. Thirty-five per cent disagreed.

Czech Republic, Canada and Germany, along with Hong Kong, saw more people worried about the future rather than wanting to enjoy themselves.
