HK$450,000 start-up fund to be launched at Ani-Com and Games Hong Kong fair
Programme aims to cultivate new generation of entrepreneurs
To groom young entrepreneurs, a HK$450,000 start-up fund will be launched at the annual Ani-Com and Games Hong Kong fair next week.
Leung Chung-poon, the convention’s chief executive, said the fund was aimed at cultivating a new generation of entrepreneurs interested in animation, comics and games.
“We encourage involvement by parents and aim to develop the creative interests of children and young people,” Leung said.
Organised by non-profit-making institution Art Plus Education Foundation, the first Hong Kong Ani-Com & Games entrepreneurship programme will assist 10 teams of young people aged between 18 and 35 with a combined HK$450,000 fund. Participants will be mentored and given funding to promote their businesses and grow their brands.
Art Plus CEO Sunny Tang said: “This is the first youth business start-up supporting scheme with a focus on Hong Kong Ani-Com and Games intellectual property. We have communicated a lot with related government departments for such a high amount of funding.”
Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation chairman Tony Wong said the local comics and animation scene was lagging behind because of electronic piracy and the lack of good themes.
“We are expecting more local self-created animation and comics in the next two to three years,” he said.
