Between them, the Hong Kong news and internet teams netted special recognition from judges for their 24-hour online coverage of last year's Occupy Central movement, when reporters monitored the Admiralty, Mong Kok and Causeway Bay protest zones around the clock.
photographers Cheng Kok-yin and Nora Tam, meanwhile, won the spot-news photography merits for their winning images: "Paul Zimmerman's Yellow Umbrella" and "Boy at the June 4 Vigil".
Tam also grabbed a feature photography merit for the photo "Hong Kong Missionary Feared Detained in Pyongyang".
Assistant photo editor Robert Ng's "Lion Rock" won in the category of photography prizes.
Merit prizes in English commentary went to Professor Michael Davis from the University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong-based journalist and entrepreneur Stephen Vines, both on the Occupy movement.
Former reporter Patrick Boehler bagged the English Online merits for his article on "Voices from Tiananmen".
The awards, now in their 19th year, are jointly organised by the Foreign Correspondents' Club, Amnesty International Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Journalists Association.
