Hair raising: Riders get scare at Hong Kong roller coaster as Ocean Park attraction suspended over safety fears
Passengers on a roller coaster in Ocean Park had to walk away from the ride after a safety device halted it moments before they climbed a loop for a full thrill-charged ride.
The park said the Hair Raiser rollercoaster stopped temporarily shortly after it left the boarding platform as its safety system detected an abnormality at 2.18pm yesterday.
It said on-site staff executed standard exit procedures immediately to help riders return to the platform.
No one was reported injured.
“The first guest on the ride was exited safely from the ride exit stairs to the ground at 2.24pm and the remaining guests were also exited swiftly without reporting any discomfort or illnesses by 2.41pm,” the park said in a statement.
The attraction was suspended for checks and tests after the incident. It will resume service today.
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department was notified of the incident.
The 35-metre-high Hair Raiser is the first floorless roller coaster in the city. It opened to the public on December 8, 2011.
The park has 22 mechanical rides. It said all were inspected on a daily basis, while periodical maintenance checks were conducted on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
The rides are also subject to annual inspections by surveyors, who submit detailed reports to the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.
