The Hong Kong Sinfonietta is poised to make further strides on its latest venture overseas: a four-city tour of France and Switzerland to showcase home-grown artists whose expertise ranges from music to the visual arts.

It will raise to 30 the number of cities the Sinfonietta has performed in around the world.

According to its CEO Margaret Yang, global interest in the orchestra has steadily climbed.

“The biggest difference between the present tour and previous ones is that we choose where to tour due to the amount of invitations we receive,” said Yang, who has led the Sinfonietta since it turned professional in 1999.

“By word of mouth among artist agents, we no longer need to say who we are, and more agencies plan to attend our debut concerts in Switzerland.”

Music director Yip Wing-sie echoed Yang’s explanation, adding: “We’ve been putting Hong Kong on the world map of classical music since our first tour in 2000 and we want to bring the city’s best to European audiences, just like we do it at home.
