Small consolation? Hong Kong’s international schools cheaper than Singapore’s, report finds
The study based its comparison on average annual tuition and expat earnings

International schools in Hong Kong are cheaper and more affordable for expatriates than their counterparts in Singapore, a research report found.
Hong Kong’s international school fees are ranked “most affordable” compared to five countries on the list – Singapore, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand – according to a report released by the expatriate taxes and financial planning company the Fry Group.
Hong Kong was slightly cheaper than Singapore, with average annual tuition being SG$29,042 (HK$158,703), while Singapore’s was SG$30,900. The United Kingdom was the costliest at SG$40,155.

The affordability comparison was based on “a basket of earnings data”, comprising “employees in major cities” and was considered “more representative of what an average expat would be earning” for the international comparison.
The report did not take into account average national earnings as “international schools are financially inaccessible to large portions of the population”, it stated.
The report also calculated average annual school fees of international schools in the six locations, taking annual school fees of three to four international schools in each place and tallying an average.
