Until now, teams taking part in the annual Oxfam Trailwalker have only had tales of triumph and exhausted-looking selfies to show for, at the end of the gruelling 100km pursuit.
But this year, technology is bringing the epic charity challenge into real time for everyone to enjoy - from a comfortable distance on the couch.
For the first time in the event's 34-year history, the 33 teams will carry GPS trackers, enabling their progress to be tracked live.
Those include the 13 teams in the elite "Super Trailwalker" category, in addition to the 20 corporate teams taking part under the auspices of official sponsor AIA.
And with elite competitors flying in from across the globe, the technological twist will bring an exciting competitive element to the MacLehose trail, according to a representative from the tracking company, which is independent of Oxfam Trailwalker.
"Having the Trailwalker covered with live tracking provides a new dimension in following the race," Clement Dumont, the Asian representative of technology provider DotVision said.
"It is also gives new information to the support teams, so they can know the position of each team and how far the teams are ahead and behind."
