Toilet promoters create ‘faecal attraction’ outside Hong Kong shopping centre
Statues of controversial poop character leaving some shoppers in a flush at a Causeway Bay mall

It’s normally something we flush away – out of sight and out of mind. But here, it’s the centre of attention.
Giant, cartoon poops on top of multi-coloured toilets have been drawing crowds to a Causeway Bay shopping centre.
It may not look like it, but they’re actually statues of a cartoon character called Excreman, who is personified as a piece of poop.

The exhibition outside World Trade Centre has been part of a Japanese company’s promotional campaign for new “smart toilets”.
Photos on TOTO Hong Kong’s Facebook page, show children and families posing with the poop and sitting on the toilets. The company has also been giving away toilet rolls that feature sketches of Excreman in a scenic setting and the words “Excreman’s sh***y garden – a faecal pleasure hunt and loo roll” printed on it.
Excreman, who looks more like a tanned snowman, dons a toilet roll as a scarf and uses a chamber pot for a hat.
His name in Cantonese has offended some people, as it is roughly the same as the English word “s**t”.
“They should change the name at least – it’s not very civilised to teach children these vulgar words,” said Leung Chui-ling, a passerby standing next to a four-metre high poop statue.
