In with the new, out with the old: Hong Kong’s New Year in pictures

South China Morning Post photographers capture the colour, the characters and the culture of the Chinese New Year celebrations

Hongkongers welcomed the Year of the Monkey in traditional style, with parades, events, shows and prayers for prosperity and good fortune. The city’s temples were packed with worshippers, burning incense and making offerings as they sought to lock in their luck for what many say will be a volatile and unpredictable year – just like the monkey itself. Post photographers Nora Tam, David Wong and Felix Wong captured some of the events and the festive atmosphere around town.
