SCMP scoops four prizes at Hong Kong Human Rights Press Awards

Recognition for reporters Jeffie Lam and Verna Yu and photographers Dickson Lee and Sam Tsang

The South China Morning Post scooped four prizes on Friday night at Hong Kong’s 20th Human Rights Press Awards.

City news reporter Jeffie Lam won the English features merit prize for her article, “Elderly bussed in for district election vote”.
Senior writer Verna Yu’s series titled “Crackdown on Chinese rights lawyers” won the English features merit.

Post photographers Dickson Lee and Sam Tsang each grabbed a spot news photography merit for their images, “The lonely life of the McSleepers” and “Disputed land”, respectively.

The Hong Kong Journalists Association received 278 submissions this year, including more than 100 entries in the Chinese category, 80 in English and 55 in the photojournalism category.

Robyn Kilpatrick, a co-founder of the awards, said she was impressed by the entries.
