Primary Three students from some 50 schools in Hong Kong took part in the revised Territory-wide System Assessment for the section on Chinese language on Tuesday with at least two schools recording more than 10 per cent of students not participating in the tests.

In a first, the Education Bureau made public the question papers on the day of the assessment, a move seen as a gesture of transparency to allay public concerns over drilling to prepare for them.

Educators and parents have blamed the controversial test for exerting undue pressure on primary schoolchildren.

This led to a review by a government-tasked committee, which recommended a try-out scheme for 50 schools featuring less demanding tests.
