A player of hit mobile game Pokeman Go fell into a river at Tai Po and injured himself when he tried to recover his mobile phone which had slipped off his hand, according to a witness.

The 18-year-old man was apparently playing the game by Lam Tsuen River near Tai Po Mega Mall at about 6pm Sunday, when his phone slipped, and he lunged after it, ending up in the knee-deep water.

He was rescued by several people. The man sustained injuries on his legs and was sent to a hospital after he was pulled to safety.

A witness said: “Half of his body was in the water, and his leg was bleeding. His mobile phone was already sinking, but the Pokemon game was still on the screen.”

She said the hapless victim was rescued with a rope found by passers-by.

“He had given up on his phone, and allowed it to sink. But when he was on the shore, the flustered man asked [onlookers] to go away and said there was nothing interesting to see.”

She said she also wanted to know which Pokemon he was trying to catch.
