Bob Dylan documentary to air in Hong Kong as artist is honoured for Nobel Prize for Literature

An award-winning documentary on Bob Dylan will be aired in Hong Kong paying tribute to the newest Nobel laureate in literature with a message for local viewers.

Radio Television Hong Kong Channel 31 will broadcast No Direction Home: Bob Dylan, a three-hour documentary by Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese at 10.50pm Saturday – 40 minutes before this year’s Nobel Prize ceremony starts in Stockholm.

RTHK head of acquisition Amy Kwong Sze-yin said the broadcaster was pleased to present “this rarity which shows the iconic songwriter at his most genuine narrative through the lens of a master”.

She described a recent “hectic three weeks” of securing the consent of Dylan’s management, translating the script, dubbing the voice-over and producing subtitles for all the songs featured in the film.

The 2005 film – condensed to 208 minutes from 10 hours of footage – features Dylan telling his story himself. The broadcaster will screen the film spotlighting the multiple Grammy-winning artist without commercial breaks.
