Bus on Chinese University campus in Hong Kong reduced to smouldering wreck in minutes after catching fire

A bus on the Chinese University campus was reduced to a smouldering wreck in just minutes after it caught fire on Tuesday afternoon.
Flames erupted from the back of the coach as it passed near the Leung Kau Kui Building on Central Avenue at the institution’s Sha Tin campus at about 3.40pm.
Video clips posted on CUHK Campus Radio’s Facebook page showed thick black smoke billowing from the bus, with firefighters trying to contain the blaze.
The Fire Services Department deployed two jets and two teams with breathing apparatus.
The fire was put out in about 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.
The vehicle, owned by Sun Bus, was left a burned-out shell. The department was investigating.
Sammi Wong Sum-yee, chief director of CUHK Campus Radio, was told by a schoolmate who was on bus with about 20 others that passengers first realised flames were coming out of the back as the vehicle was going uphill to New Asia College.
“They alerted the driver who stopped the bus and let them off,” Wong said, adding that the schoolmate detected nothing strange beforehand.
A university spokeswoman said the bus contractor would arrange an examination of the coach at its depot. The institution would follow on the case with the company.
In March 2014, another school bus also caught fire near S H Ho College on the campus in a similar way. No one was hurt.
