International school chain secures border site in bid to become first Hong Kong campus to offer mainland Chinese curriculum by 2026

An international school chain in Hong Kong has secured a site near the border in a bid to become the first institution in the city to offer the mainland Chinese curriculum by 2026, a year later than previously planned by authorities.
Yew Chung Yew Wah Education Network, which runs international schools from kindergarten to secondary levels in 11 cities across the country, including Hong Kong, was selected as the “most suitable applicant” for a private institution with the mainland curriculum, authorities announced on Thursday.

“With the vibrant development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong’s commitment in promoting the interflow of talent with the mainland and creating strong impetus for growth, it is expected the demand from mainland families in Hong Kong for mainland curriculum school places will rise,” the Education Bureau said.
The empty site, situated beside a wetland park in Tin Shui Wai, spans 93,000 sq ft, larger than a typical public secondary school in Hong Kong at 74,809 sq ft.
The new institution will be called Yew Wah School of Hong Kong. Renowned local architect Rocco Yim Sen-kee, who designed the Hong Kong Palace Museum, has been commissioned for the project.
Yew Chung is expected to start operating the campus in the 2026-27 school year at the earliest and will offer about 900 primary and secondary places in phases.
