Hong Kong education authorities to follow up with school after students told to retake English exam over learning materials mix-up
- Preliminary investigation shows class received learning materials too similar to the test questions due to teacher’s error, says De La Salle Secondary School board
- Education Bureau says it will follow up and review school’s investigation results

An English teacher from De La Salle Secondary School in the New Territories discovered the performance of some Secondary Three students was abnormal in the recent final exam on the subject and notified the relevant team.
“When the exam team contacted the relevant students, it found some of their learning materials were similar to the exam paper. The school management was informed,” a statement from the school board said.

It said the school asked its crisis management team to follow up and discuss with the English language subject panel how best to handle the matter.
“To ensure fairness for the entire form, the school decided to arrange another exam,” the statement said, adding that it had explained to all students and parents why the exam needed to be retaken.
The board said the school management had spoken to the teacher behind the error.
“The preliminary investigation has found that the teacher had committed a mistake, the school will handle the matter seriously and set up a task force,” the school’s management said. The results of the investigation would be submitted to the board, it added.
