Hong Kong’s education minister on Friday said she had attended a panel discussion at a British trade show “as planned” amid objections to her UK visit by an anti-China activist group.
Secretary for Education Christine Choi Yuk-lin also said on social media that she had introduced the latest developments and advantages of Hong Kong education during the panel discussion, including how to cultivate talent in the digital age.
“My visit to London, England, over the past few days went smoothly and successfully,” she said on Facebook.
“I attended the British Educational Training and Technology Show in London as planned to learn about the education technology and innovation proposals by different exhibitors.”
The show, run by conference organiser Hyve Group, promotes information technology in education.
Choi’s attendance was brought into question after the British-based group Hong Kong Watch issued a statement calling for action against her. It also accused her of “continuing to dismantle academic freedoms in Hong Kong”.
