Thunderstorm warning issued for Hong Kong as more than 30mm of rain drenches city
A thunderstorm warning was issued for Hong Kong this morning, just two days after the city finished its driest August in 23 years.

A thunderstorm warning was issued for Hong Kong this morning, just two days after the city finished its driest August in 23 years.
The Hong Kong Observatory issued the warning to residents at 7.55am, saying that squally thunderstorms were expected across the city. At 10am, the warning was extended until noon.
Gusts were expected to reach upwards of 70km/h, as more than more than 30mm of rain was recorded in parts of the city.
The Observatory warned Hongkongers to stay indoors if possible and not to stand on high ground to avoid lightning strikes.
Drivers on highways and flyovers were also warned to reduce their speed to avoid violent gusts of winds.
